Wizards 16-game losing streak in San Antonio by the numbers

On Friday, the Wizards will look to do something they haven’t done since the Gar Heard administration: Win in San Antonio.
Washington’s last road win against the Spurs was a 99-89 triumph at the Alamodome on Dec. 11, 1999. Mitch Richmond scored a game-high 31 points, Tracy Murray scored 13 of his 15 points off the bench in the fourth quarter and Washington never trailed in the second half en route to its fourth consecutive win over the Spurs in the Alamo City.
That win was literally front-page news.
Since then, the Wizards have lost 16 straight in San Antonio, in two different arenas. They couldn’t fake a win on April Fools’ Day in 2006 and they suffered a fitting loss on Groundhog Day in 2013. Here’s a closer look at the skid.

The Wizards aren’t the only team the Spurs have dominated at home — or anywhere, really — over the last 20 years. The Warriors snapped a 33-game losing streak at San Antonio that dated to 1997 last April. The NBA record for consecutive road losses against one team belongs to the Kings, who lost 43 straight road games against the Lakers from 1975 to 1992. Coincidentally, Mitch Richmond helped snap that streak, too, with a team-high 29 points in a 124-114 win at the Great Western Forum on Nov. 8, 1992.
